Frequently asked questions: Wedding Videos

Can you secure a date without a deposit?
No, but we will pencil you in for a date and let you know if someone else is interested in booking it.

How do you dress?
We dress smartly, usually black in order to blend in.

How much of a retainer is required to secure a date?
A 50% retainer is required to reserve your date. The rest is payable on delivery of the DVD's.

What is the cancellation policy?
If you request a change in date, the retainer is transferable and prices are still guaranteed depending on our availability for the new date and as long as the new date is within one year from the original booking and the request is received 30 days from the original date. If the new date is more than one year from the original booking, then any new pricing in effect will apply.

Do we have to provide you with a meal?
No, but we would like to be made aware of your catering plans, so we can make appropriate arrangements.

Won't the lights & video cameras annoy guests and ruin the atmosphere?
We normally work without any additional lights, which can involve tradeoffs. While it is possible to record in a dimly lit reception area, extra light will improve the video image. You may prefer to have additional light during the speeches and formalities so that the audience, as well as the cameras, can see people clearly, this is up to you. Our cameramen try and work as discreetly as possible. We never interfere with the moment - we are merely there to capture it.

Is it possible to film in high definition?
Yes, we shoot all our productions on full HD video.

When can we expect to get our completed DVD?
We have a maximum turnaround time of four months, but we always try and get the video completed as soon as possible after the wedding and usually within the 1st two months.

Do you require a payment upfront or the whole payment when we get the DVD's from you?
We require 50% down payment, as this secures your date. The balance is payable on receipt of the DVD’s. You will get a contract that covers you.

Do you edit the wedding video?
Yes! This is where we spend a lot of time, tweaking and fine tuning until it is perfectly in sync and all the bad or boring bits are cut out. We typically spend about 40 hours on the edit!

Am I guaranteed that Mark will be the one showing up to film my wedding?
Mark is actively involved in the filming and editing of each wedding, whenever possible and subject to work load. We may make use of an additional cameraman or two, but Mark directs the cameramen and does all the important filming and oversees all the editing.

Is there an additional fee for different arrival / departure times?
Yes. Videographers arrive 1 hour before the start of the ceremony or during the bridal preparations, depending on the package chosen. We have found that by 10 pm all the formalities are usually complete and the guests are having a good time, so all the special moments are covered. If you require our services after 10pm then an additional charge of R300 per hour, per person is chargeable. This arrangement can be made on the evening.

How much does your typical couple budget for a wedding video?
Budget between R5000 and R10 000. It all depends on your requirements.

It seems expensive to have a wedding video made. Why not go for the cheaper quote?
Be careful of videos costing less than R5 000 as these videographers will probably be spending less than 40 hours on your video to give it that polished look it needs. If you get it done cheaper, then you may just end up with a video that is not worth much. Do yourself a favour and ask to see a complete wedding video before booking a videographer.

How long do you stay at the reception?
We usually leave after all the formalities are done, which is usually after the tossing of the garter. With prior arrangement we are happy to stay right till the end. We have found that by 10 pm all the formalities are usually complete and the guests are having a good time, so all the special moments are covered. If you require our services after 10pm then an additional charge of R300 per hour, per person is chargeable. This need only be decided on the evening.

My fiancé is worried about the fact that the DVD for the Highlights package is too short. I tried to explain to him but it is just weird for him as he is used to watching the longer version videos.
Have you ever heard the saying “less is more”? Have you ever sat and watched someone else’s wedding video – in it’s entirely? Like a 2 hour “epic”, with all the speeches and the entire ceremony and half an hour of guests slowly ambling up to the church? If you haven’t then try and watch one. I bet you fast forwarded through most of it – and once you have watched it, you never want to see it again. Most of it can be summarized in one word. Boring. Our wedding videos are different. Yes we shoot everything, from the guests arriving to the tossing of the garter. Then we edit this down. You tell us what music you like and we cut out all the most beautiful and emotional moments and I lay them down in sync to the music. So you get a well polished DVD that we guarantee will be watched over and over. Its like a personalized music video of your special day. You may want more, like all the vows, and all the speeches. We are happy to do this, but this does cost extra as it requires a lot more editing time. We typically spend around 8 days editing just the video! If you do want all the speeches and all the extras, then go for the "Premium Package".

My fiancé hates posing for photos and the idea of having a videographer follow his every move terrifies him, and he doesn’t want that extra stress on the wedding day.
Don’t worry, you are not alone! This is actually one of the major concerns many brides-to-be have. I suggest you take a look at some of the feedback from previous clients in the “references” section.

Do you film the entire day and then go home and alter all the footage into a summary? Will the entire taped thing also be available or not?
Yes we do film the entire day. How we film it depends on which package you choose. If you only want the "Short & Sweet package" or the "Essential package" then we get creative and we are not restricted by having to film every word, so we get to move around and capture the most intimate moments. (we usually shoot about 3 hours of footage in this scenario) If you want the “Premium package” then we shoot about 6 hours of footage. We don't like to "dump" the unedited footage onto DVD, as we first edit it, and this takes time, hence the extra costs involved.

You give 3 DVD's as part of some packages - do they all contain the same thing?
Yes all the DVD’s contain the same video. The reason we give 3 is that the couple usually gives one to both sets of parents.
